Installing ISETLW
Later we plan to offer a fancy SETUP program that will install ISETLW into your Windows
environment. For now you'll have to install it yourself. Since you don't have to change any of
your Windows system files (such as system.ini and win.ini), this is a fairly simple task. ISETLW
does not make any changes to any system files, so it's also fairly simple to delete it or upgrade it
later. Anyone with rudimentary knowledge of installing programs into Program Manager will
feel comfortable installing ISETL. Others should be able to find a friend to help.
Instructions for Installing ISETLW
You should already have isetlw20.zip. If not, you can download ISETLW 2.0 now.
ISETLW does not require changes to any system files. You do not need to change
autoexec.bat, config.sys, system.ini, or win.ini.
Note: ISETLW can be installed on any network drive or a local hard drive, but for example I'll
assume we're installing it on the C: drive.
- Create a directory for ISETLW, say C:\ISETLW. I would do this with FileManager, but
there are other ways. Consider creating a subdirectory called DATA (read below before
continuing.)
If you are updating, version 2.0 should be installed in a new directory.
- Copy isetlw20.zip and pkunzip.exe into the C:\ISETLW directory.
- Navigate to the C:\ISETLW directory.
- Decompress the files by typing pkunzip isetlw20 (if unwanted, pkunzip.exe may be deleted after this)
- In the File menu of Program Manager, click New, click the radio button for Program Group
then click OK, fill in a Description (ISETLW) and a Group File (ISETLW.GRP) and click OK.
- Now that we have a Group to hold the ISETLW icon we need to install the program into the
group. In the File menu of Program Manager, click New, leave the radio buttons set to Program
Item and click OK, fill in a Description (ISETLW or ISETL for Windows), a Command Line
(C:\ISETLW\ISETLW), a Working Directory (where you want to keep your data files--perhaps
in a subdirectory of ISETLW called DATA), and click OK. The ISETLW icon should appear in
the ISETLW group window and ISETLW is now installed.
